Angel Falls: The First Night

The First Night

Somewhere in the Navajo Nation a black van rolls next to a small trailer. As it stops a man named Jack Callahan steps out of the vehicle. He is dressed in a black trench coat and a 10 gallon cowboy hat. He picks up his shotgun from the side of the vehicle and heads toward the house.

He knocks the door and a man comes out and he answers, “Yes do you want anything?”

Jack replies simply, “Jebidiah Nadleehee it is time to meet your death.” Before Jebidiah could react Jack Callahan shoots him in the middle of the chest and two more times after he falls on the ground once in the head the other time in the heart. After he does that he stops shooting Jebidiah and watches him die. After he dies Jack picks up the shell casings and then walks out of the trailer.

After the door is shut two young boys come into view. Both are twins. One of them is named Esau and the other Jacob. They both walk toward the dead body of their uncle Jebidiah with horrified faces.

A young man walks out of Church. He has a polo, khaki’s and dress shoes on. He is Native American, though his hair seems straight now, when it grows it tends to get curly. He is of diminutive height at around 5’5. But as he walks around you see a sense of peace in his face.

As he looks up he sees several guardian heroes in the air. Esau has a wide smile, “Wow now that is a sight to see.” Esau stares into the heavens as they fly. The likes of Quebec Star, Valkeris, and many more fly in the air.

In an almost childish remark he says, “Man it would be awesome to be like them.”

As Esau smiles as he stares at the meta-humans he knows he has been preparing for some time to be a hero. Lately he has saved enough for his own costume something dramatic. But he has to head home to add some finishing touches.

As he runs to his small apartment photos cover the wall of people Esau met and even certificates of some kind. But Esau is a man who loves to help others. Going into the kitchen he has several patches with crosses on them. He attaches them on his arms and then puts the marks J C on each side. Now he dawns a face mask and a headband filled with crosses. He puts on a dark grey military Jacket and pants with dark boots.

He looks in the mirror and says, “I look good, really good.” You can see in his eyes a sense of accomplishment. Now it was time to choose his weapon. He had two choices tonight. One the good old and reliable M1917 Lee Enfield this rifle is almost as tall as Esau and adding the bayonet with it would about match his height. Even though long it is a real hole puncher with the heavy and mean 30-06 ammo. But he picks up the other weapon; it is the Czech puška vz. 33Mauser styled rifle though it is also called the krátká puška vz. 33. It is a significantly shorter rifle. But has a slightly weaker round but still dangerous. But for now Esau chooses the Czech rifle in this case and attaches a bayonet with it.

He grabs a belt with Ammo belts on it and some bottles of water. Then he reads his bible depicting the armor of god prayer and prays that it covers him on his first night of being a hero. Then he grabs his medicine bag in it there is some taadadine, copal, quartz and a cross. He puts it on and keeps it away from view.

Ready he steps out of his apartment and puts a stripper clip of ammo in his rifle. He walks outside of the apartment without anyone noticing. It is a beautiful and quiet night outside. Nothing seems to be wrong. But Esau knows were the gangs resided. He walks north to an uneasy quarter were a pit bull fighting ring is at and according to some reports a gang leader is said to be. Esau knows only his name Dragon Heart. Not only is he a gang leader but a meta-human with the power to breathe fire.
But for now Esau has to breathe and go in. He leans his back against the door and hopes for the best. He opens the door and enters the hallway. He can hear loud yells and cheers and the growls of dogs. Esau feels bad for the dogs but he knows he has to continue on to his mission.

He finally heads down stairs where there are people observing a dogfight between two pit bulls. The one standing in the middle is the leader of the Dragon, Dragon Heart. He smiles as he sees the pain of the dogs fight with their handlers in the pit encouraging them.

Esau raises his gun and fires. There he yells, “Anyone here who doesn’t want to get in a fight get the hell out of here!!!!!!” Some men flee while others pull our rifles and fires at Esau. Esau swiftly takes cover and fires back. He hits a few of the gangsters in non-lethal places and knocks them down.

Dragon Heart smiles, “Well look at what I see here another plucky hero here to ruin my career. Well then little hero let me ruin yours first.” Suddenly he breathes in and released a blast of fire at Esau.

Esau dodges the fire blast and fires at Dragon Heart. It hits Dragon heart but he seems unaffected. Esau looks and starts a strategic withdrawal. As he runs the fire is being blasted toward him directly until he has only one place to hide. In the Kennel were they keep the Pit Bulls.

As Esau hides here he sees the dogs, some of them seem to be injured and others scarred up. A lot of them are barking. Esau is concerned about the dogs and looks at the door, “Oh grapes, there are too many dogs here and there is only one exit. I better finish this quickly.”

Esau then has a brilliant plan. Esau releases the dogs from their cages and they run out. Esau then finds a hiding place where to snipe Dragon Heart. It might now be the best plan but he prays that it works.

As he hides he sees a cage where there are four pit bulls all of them with odd symbols on them. All of them seem to have a symbol that looks like an S. Esau has a bad feeling as he looks at them. These Pit Bulls are not what they seem. All of them have a very human fear in their eyes. They try to get close to Esau like to seek comfort.

Esau pats them on the head and it calms some of them down. He says to them, “It’s alright girls you are safe.” Esau does not know what is really going on in this place it got more complicated. At first to him it was a dog fighting ring and now to him a possible case of witchcraft.

All Esau knows is that he needs to get out of here soon. Or even better defeat the villain who had perpetuated the evil.

He looks around the cage and sees four set of human clothes. This is very troubling to Esau. IF those dogs were human at some point of time then he is not dealing with a meta-human. More likely a witch or a demon, Esau could only look at the clothes and respond, “Damn this is not what I was thinking I was going to see in my first day as a hero.”

Esau now is getting angry but not angry enough to strike a person head off but to plan and find a solution to defeat the evil being.

He looks at the innocent victims of witchcraft the Pit Bulls that were formerly human. Esau simply speaks to them, “Go hide in the corner over there. I will be alright. I will take care of the person who done this too you.”

After Esau speaks to them, the Pit Bull with the blue brindle coat nods and leads the other ones to the corner where they can hide efficiently.

Esau then puts blessed Ash in the chamber and the blade. “I pray this works. According to my father this will harm witches and other sorts of monsters.” After he places the ash in the chamber, then he blesses himself with tadadine and then says the shield of God prayer. He now feels ready. He waits for the evil to come.

Then a voice appears from outside the room. “Damn those freaking mongrels got away. Even that stupid little hero is gone. No matter I will deal with him later. Not to be sure the cursed don’t escape. All of them are beautiful women. But it doesn’t matter they disobeyed me and are no better than dogs. Well they are now anyway.” The voice that had confessed belongs to Dragon Heart.

As he opens the door Esau feel his monstrous presence. Now it was the time to strike he looks at him and aims his rifle at Dragon Heart.

Dragon Heart smiles, “Well there is that stinking little human trying to face a powerful mage like me? Shame that you will not stand on two legs anymore, but hey I need new fighting dogs since they all ran away I will use you.” Dragon Heart’s smile becomes more twisted and evil. His mouth starts to fill with magic fire. The Fire that changes a person’s form, it’s a cruel and evil power.

Esau looks now with a bit of fear and he prays, “in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return” He is about to fire now.

Dragon Heart lets out his flames and it consumes Esau. But instead of turning Esau into a dog Esau seems to absorb his power. He yells, “What is happening!!!!”

Esau feels a force that makes him open his mouth and utter words, “Thou has sinned and done evil against the lord imprisoning these four daughters of the lord into bodies of animals!!! Now the curse that you have bestowed upon them is lifted. With you cast off to oblivion and power forfeit!!!”

Dragon Heart replies, “No fucking way man this is not real!! I will destroy you!!!!” He fires an evil larger blast that seems to dissipate.

Esau is in the right mindset but it seems that the voice is speaking through him. Esau is not afraid of it. It seems almost like a guardian angel. The voice continues to speak through Esau, “Foolish man you are to think you can do harm without getting away from it.”

Dragon Heart yells at Esau and replies, “No you are gonna die you son of a bitch!!!”

Esau then fires at Dragon heart and he falls flat on the ground. Esau is still unable to control his own voice. But whatever speaks through him says, “Well the lord bless you and be with you.” A final bayonet stab hits the heart and Dragon Heart turns to ashes. The voice then speaks to Esau, “Well thanks for letting me use your body kid. Now I got to go to heaven for lets say administration business.”

As the voice dissipates a light shines through the room and Esau gathers his breath. And he replies, “What the hell?”

As he look around a woman in seemingly 1920’s flapper clothes, another in 1940’s clothing, a black woman in 1970’s hairstyle and clothing and a school girl appear out of the darkness. The flapper woman seems to speak for all of them. “Thanks toots you freed us from that curse. Don’t mind the rest of the three they will speak soon after they gain themselves.”

Esau could only respond, “Wait are you those dogs?”

The Flapper girl smiles, Esau takes a closer look at her. She seems to have black hair and green eyes and well a pleasant body. She responds to Esau in Kind, “Yes we are but please call me Betty everybody does in my time anyway.”

Esau asks her, “What caused this to happen to all of you?”

Betty responds only a bit coldly, “All of us had fallen under debt to this man through unfortunate circumstances. As we tried to pay it off he always increased it two fold. After a while he punished us to be his dogs for other use some of us he killed others he kept us as basically breeding dogs. But now we are free we can leave.”

Esau looks at all of them, “Well do you all need any help?”

Betty smiles and shakes her head, “We don’t need any more help. Hero boy you helped us enough.” As she said those final words all of them walked on.

As they walked a dark shadow appears and a tall ma with long greyish white hair and grey ayes appears covered in a shroud. His eyes are bright yellow and he smiles, “Are you all ready to go to the afterlife?”

Betty and the other girls just nodded. The being then let them all in a portal of light and they disappeared into the light, Leaving Esau alone in the small building.

Esau now gives off a tired laugh.

He gets up and starts walking out of the building. He thinks of his first day as a hero and wonders what more will come. He knows one thing he will save more people in the future.
